The 2021 Nissan Navara brings a new look, new tech, and a few other changes making it the most significant update to the D23 Navara since it launched back in 2015.

The biggest change is a whole new nose. You've got the squared C shape LED running lamps like you'll see on the Patrol, plus quad-LED projector lamps, which is a first for the segment. Perhaps though, the most significant change is the interlocking grill as Nissan call it, which brings the Navara more in line with the look of the North American Frontier and Titan pickups, and I think, give it a pretty bold new look.

At the rear are LED tail lamps, a revised rear bumper, and the Navara logo is now embossed into the tailgate. This car, the new PRO-4X, scores black trim elements, including light-duty flares with orange highlights and a cool new sports bar design in the tub. Now, the PRO-4X is a new range-topping trim grade that we may see filter across to other models in the Nissan lineup. For context, though, think of it as a wild track competitor, which means there's still space above this for new Navara Warrior.

Perhaps signifying the importance of this as a lifestyle ute, the rear seat base has been cushioned and made a little bit more comfortable. You've now got a folding armrest with cup holders, plus USB charge points. And because this is a Navara, you still get the cool sliding rear window. Up front though, there's some more tech changes.

Up here, the cabin of the Navara has been reinforced with better sound-deadening which includes a laminated windscreen and new side windows. There's a new steering wheel, a revised instrument cluster with a seven-inch display, very similar to what you find on the new Nissan Juke, plus the eight-inch central touchscreen here has support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's a host of tech changes too, including a forward-collision warning system that looks two cars ahead, blind-spot monitoring, a lane departure warning and lane-keep assistance system, and of course, autonomous emergency braking and rear cross-traffic alert. What you can't see is in here is a more modern USBC port, helpful if you've got a newer phone, and if you're feeling a little bit more old school, you may have noticed it's available as a six-speed manual. You also get a handy 360-degree camera with object detection and even an off-road mode, which activates when the car is in four-wheel-drive low range and allows the four external cameras to be used to help when navigating tricky terrain.

While it may seem that Nissan has been focusing on more lifestyle updates for the Navara, they have also concentrated on the payload. The car now has a strengthened rear axle allowing on the PRO-4X now a 1.1-tonne payload, which goes up to a 1.2-tonne payload on other models in the range. Plus, it still has the cup holders embossed into the rear tub.

The paint on our car here is called stealth grey and there are eight colours available for the new Navara. If you like the look of the car, the new 2021 Nissan Navara goes on sale in Australia in the first quarter of 2021.
