Kawasaki Frontale made it five wins from five in the 2021 AFC Champions League, confirming their place in the knockout stage as Group I winners with a game to spare with a 3-1 victory against Daegu FC on Thursday.
The match was dominated by Kawasaki’s Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao, who netted a blistering hat-trick, while his compatriot Edgar scored Daegu’s sole goal just before half time.
Kawasaki’s perfect haul of 15 points means the J1 League champions will feature in the Round of 16 in September, while Daegu now must beat United City FC on Sunday to boost their chances of advancing as one of the best three runners-up in the East Zone.
