Have you ever been told that your jump shot should be ONE MOTION?
If so, you've been given some misleading advice ????
But don't worry, we're here to help you undo any damage caused to your jumpshot by trying to follow this rule.
Coaches often use Steph Curry, Trae Young, and Klay Thompson as examples when they say you should try to shoot with one motion. This is wrong because all of the best shooters actually have 2 MOTIONS in their shot:
1️⃣ The ball going up
2️⃣ The ball going out towards the hoop
When your coach mentions "one motion", they really mean that they want your jump shot to look "FLUID"
Unfortunately, coaches typically associate the "two motion" shot with a hitch, but this is simply not true! We can all agree that a hitch is not good for your shot. If you have a hitch, you're doing something wrong!
The key is to move the basketball in the correct order. You want to get the ball moving up first, then once you get to about your set point, everything should go up into the ball at the same time!
When you do this right, your shot will look as fluid as sharpshooters like Steph Curry and Trae Young.
