The big 2022 challenge forcing some F1 teams to change their liveries

If you look closely at some of the 2022 Formula 1 cars now compared to how they looked when they were launched, you will see some subtle differences.

We’re used to the cars themselves changing as aerodynamic upgrades are introduced in pursuit of improved performance. But some teams have made modifications to their livery in the hope of shaving crucial fractions of a second off their lap times.

The most obvious example is Williams, which ran at Imola recently with a significant amount of paint removed from its chassis. But it’s far from the only team to take such action, proof of just how difficult it is for teams to get their cars down to the minimum weight.
