France's Victor Perez holds a one shot lead at the 2020 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai following an opening round of 67.

The 28-year-old started the week sixth on The Race to Dubai but finished the day on course to become the first French player to end the year as European Number One.

There is still a long way to go over Jumeirah Golf Estates' Earth Course, however, with a host of big names hot on Perez's heels.

England's Matthew Fitzpatrick, Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and South African Erik Van Rooyen all opened with four under par rounds of 68, with two-time Major winner Martin Kaymer, 2017 Race to Dubai champion Tommy Fleetwood, three-time Rolex Series winner Tyrrell Hatton and Finland's Sami Välimäki a shot further back.

Patrick Reed, looking to become the first American to top the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex after starting the week in first place, remains well in contention after birdieing the last to sign for a two under 70.

The 2020 Race to Dubai reaches its conclusion at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai this week, with players battling it out to end the year as European Number One. The European Tour’s season finale features a 65-man field, who will battle it out for the 12,000 Race to Dubai points and a prize fund of US$8million. As it stands, four players are guaranteed to claim the Race to Dubai crown with victory on the Earth Course at Jumeriah Golf Estates: Patrick Reed, Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa and Lee Westwood. For four others – Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Victor Perez, Aaron Rai and Tyrrell Hatton – victory is guaranteed provided Reed doesn’t finish second alone. But with 2,000 points of the 12,000 points going to the winner, there is still a mathematical chance that any of the leading 60 available players on the Race to Dubai standings, and Joost Luiten in 72nd position, could be crowned Race to Dubai Champion!
