Why Renault’s part-sold its works F1 team to Hollywood actors

Alpine has some celebrity part-owners as Renault has decided to sell a significant minority stake in its works F1 team.

Movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Michael B Jordan, and Reynolds’ Wrexham football club co-owner Rob McElhenney, are part of an investment group that has taken a 24% stake in Alpine.

This is a part-sale just of ‘Team Enstone’ rather than the Viry engine facility in France. So why do Hollywood A-listers want a piece of F1, why pick an entry with a French owner and a provincial UK base - and what does it actually mean for the team?
