Alex Smith feels ‘very much lucky to be alive’ after suffering broken leg | Outside the Lines

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith joins Jeremy Schaap in studio to discuss what happened when he broke his leg, enduring many surgeries and battling an infection. Smith talks about the decision on whether or not to amputate his leg and how at one point his life was hanging in the balance. Smith also discusses the process he is going through to get back on the football field. (6:48) Smith is optimistic that he can return to play quarterback, but has had some doubts about it. (8:39) Smith isn’t sure what his place is currently with the Redskins and has been in communication with new head coach Ron Rivera. (10:20) Smith provides his thoughts on Super Bowl LIV, which features both of his former teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Smith also says what he thinks of Patrick Mahomes’ quick rise to stardom in the NFL.
