ESPN examines Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre's involvement in the largest welfare scandal in the history of Mississippi that, according to a state audit, has seen at least $77 million of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds line the pockets of rich and powerful Mississippians. Six people have been arrested, five of whom have pleaded guilty for their involvement. Brett Favre allegedly utilized his connections to get 2.1 million dollars in government funds for a pharmaceutical start-up he had stake in. It was also discovered that he received 1.1 million dollars for speeches he never made and that five million dollars went toward building a volleyball arena at Favre’s alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter would play. Favre is now being sued, along with 46 others, by the state of Mississippi. Favre has denied wrongdoing and has not been criminally charged.
