Ferrari's and McLaren's abandoned Indycar projects

McLaren and Ferrari both seriously considered Indycar projects during the 1980s. Ferrari went as far as building a car, while McLaren went through a long phase of discussions with its main sponsor at the time about adding a Stateside team to its F1 effort. In this video Jack Benyon explains the details of each scenario, and why both eventually came to nothing. But with McLaren back on the scene in IndyCar and Ferrari considering it as well, could we eventually see both on the grid decades later?
