Chelsea's Fran Kirby talks exclusively with ESPN to tell her story as she had to stop playing football for over nine months as she collapsed and suffered with a heart condition called Pericarditis. Kirby details the moments leading up to her collapse, in which teammates Beth England and Maren Mjelde had to phone 999. Kirby also explains why her battle nearly led her to ringing Chelsea manager Emma Hayes to tell her she would need to quit playing football professionally. Kirby eventually overcame the illness returned to win the Community Shield and continues to play at the highest level in women's football.
