The Group 1 Sussex Stakes takes place at the iconic Goodwood Racecourse during the Qatar Goodwood Festival, also known as 'Glorious Goodwood'. The race is open to horses aged three years or older and is run over a distance of one mile.

Many equine superstars have won the race, including Frankel, Kingman, Giant's Causeway and Brigadier Gerard. Frankel has won the race twice, and trainer Henry Cecil won the race seven times (Bolkonski, Wollow, Kris, Distant View, Ali-Royal and Frankel).
