Julián Álvarez (born 31 January 2000) is an Argentinian professional footballer who currently plays for La Liga club Atlètico Madrid and the Argentina national team. He plays primarily as a striker, but he can also operate as a winger.
Álvarez joined River Plate from Atlético Calchín in 2016, he participated in the Generation Adidas Cup with the club's youth team. Before signing with River, Álvarez underwent trial periods with Boca Juniors and Real Madrid; scored two goals in five games for Real Madrid in a youth tournament. He could not join Real Madrid due to age restrictions. Álvarez was then transferred to River Plate's senior squad under manager Marcelo Gallardo during the 2018–2019 season, his professional debut coming on 27 October 2018 during a Primera Division match against Aldosivi; he came on for Rodrigo Mora playing for twenty-six minutes as his team achieved a narrow 1–0 win. Álvarez appeared as a substitute in the second leg of the 2018 Copa Libertadores final, where River Plate managed to beat rivals Boca Juniors. Álvarez scored the first goal of his senior career on 17 March 2019, scoring in his team's 3–0 win over Independiente in the league. In December 2019, he scored in the 2019 Copa Argentina Final against Central Córdoba as River won 3–0 to secure the trophy. In 2020, Álvarez scored five goals in six Copa Libertadores group stage matches.
Why is Alvarez called Spider-Man? He made his senior international debut in 2021, and played for the team that won the 2021 Copa América, 2022 Finalissima, 2022 FIFA World Cup, and 2024 Copa América. Alvarez's nickname is "La Araña" (the spider) or "El Hombre Araña " (Spider-Man), which reflects his goal celebration using a web Spider. Julian Alvarez is a new striker at Manchester City this season apart from Erling Haaland. The arrival of the two at the club gave the duo a good performance on the gridiron. This Argentinian player is a former member of the River Plate team and is one of the top scorers in his team. Alvarez also has the nickname El Arana or the little spider because of his skill on the field. However, not much is known about the young player since his move into Pep Guardiola's squad.
