On August 13, 2016, X Games BMX legend Kevin Robinson emerged from retirement to chase a new backflip distance record in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island. For years, Robinson wowed X Games audiences with his BMX Big Air prowess, and in 2016, he shifted his focus to distance. Instead of no-handed flairs, Robinson wanted to go the proverbial distance. After placing a call to X Games, a rough plan was set for Robinson to attempt the world record in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island.

"It's important for me to do this flip in my great home state of Rhode Island," Robinson said at the time. "This is all about the continued passion I have to be on my bike and to bring X back to where it all started." (The Extreme Games debuted in 1995 in Newport.)

The backflip, filmed live for ESPN, didn't come as easy as Robinson expected. Hist first attempt, after weeks of practicing into an air bag, came up short and Robinson crashed. But in true Robinson fashion, he got back up, gave it another try and landed it. The final backflip set a new world record for world's longest power-assisted BMX backflip at 84 feet.

This is the full World of X Games show from 2016. We miss you Kevin.
