On Wednesday night, Tage Thompson became the fourth player in NHL history to tally four goals in the first period, a group including Peter Bondra (1994), Grant Mulvey (1982) and Joe Malone (1921). After scoring a fifth goal, Thompson also became the second player in Buffalo Sabres history with five goals in a game (Dave Andreychuk was the first in 1986). The five goals tie Thompson for second in NHL history in goals in a road game.
