McLaren had a dreadful start to 2022, with a car short of downforce unable even to qualify in the top 10 in the first two races of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
But things improved dramatically in Australia. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo both qualified in the top seven, and finished fifth and sixth. That’s quite the reversal in fortunes.
So how did McLaren turn things around so unexpectedly, and what does it mean for its hopes for the rest of the season?
