When F1's blueprint for its next-generation of car rules was revealed in 2019, the expectation was that the cars could be more than three seconds slower than the current generation that they'll be replacing. But as the time draws closer for these radically different machines to hit the track, it now appears they could be very close to their 2021 predecessors in terms of lap times.
