Formula 1 teams are constantly trying to innovate their vehicles to make sure they can get the upper hand against their rivals, and in the late 70s Brabham and Gordon Murray really thought outside the box to try and beat rivals Lotus, and the mythical Brabham BT46B "fan car" was born.

As with all things though it was too good to last, and subsequently we don't see any cars today with giant fans strapped to the back of modern F1 cars... but why not? Jake Boxall-Legge takes a look at how the wacky idea was developed, how it worked, and how it was removed from the grid shortly after.
