When you are playing a match you obviously want to put your opponent under pressure. Often we do that best by playing them around on the court - but that's really not that nessecary.
You can either play the lines or you can play into the court. By hitting shuttles into the court - you will most likely make few mistakes and force your opponent to do something with the shuttle. You can basically give yourself a break by playing into the court. Playing the lines all the times might open up your court and the room for mistakes is higher.
