By some measures, the 2020 New York Mets were one of the greatest offenses in MLB history. In terms of wRC+, a stat based on wOBA, which is based on the triple slash, they ranked up there with the 1927 Yankees and 1976 Reds, among others. Yet they struggled to get the important hits when they mattered. The 2020 Mets bases empty? Great. The 2020 Mets RISP? Not so great. Runners in Scoring Position 2 Outs was a kryptonite.

Boasting some great seasons from the likes of Robinson Cano, Jeff McNeil, Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, and Dominic Smith, they should've had enough to make the playoffs, but clutch hitting did them in. And it made them one of the most unique teams statistically in baseball history.

Some might see this episode as another chapter in LOLMETS. We get it. They're funny. But I hope it can be more than that. The 2020 Mets could be considered one of the greatest lineups ever assembled. Instead, they ended up being the weirdest lineup ever assembled. They had the ingredients of a high scoring team, but sequencing had other plans. I hope you'll enjoy this episode of Baseball Bits a Foolish Baseball production.
